Both poems feature three stanzas, in which both progress over a period of time.
John Keats' Poem is progressing from Autumn to Winter- ''Seasons of mists and mellow fruitfulness'', ''maturing sun'', whereas Larkin's progresses from Summer to Autumn- ''Summer is fading'', ''Leaves fall in ones and twos''
Keats created his poem after an inspirational walk through the countryside, thus in the beginning Keats' poem is relatively rich is beautiful imagery, images we specifically associate with Autumn as the poem progresses we see the mood subtly change, it becomes melancholic, and mellow as winter slowly gets closer- ''soft-dying day'', ''gnats mourn''.
Larkin's poem is more continuous in mood, it's rather depressing as it shows the lives of the mothers in 1960s society. The poem is regular in form 3 stanzas and 8 lines, is shows how orderly and how much a routine and plain 1960s society was.
Larkin's poem is observant, observing family life of the 60s whereas Keats' poem is reflective, reflecting on the inspirational walk he had taken.
